Nokia 5800 XpressMusic deals

Out now and free on a 12 month contract for less than £20 per month. Also available SIM free/PAYG for £240. Here’s everything you need to know about Nokia’s first full touchscreen phone…

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has a 3.2 inch touchscreen and the latest S60 user interface. This has been especially adapted for touch control and Nokia users will find it very easy to find their way around the new Nokia 5800. The first thing you’ll notice is that the 5800 is more compact than most other touchscreen phones, such as those from LG and Samsung, and the iPhone. Yet it still has a stunning, 360×640 pixel, 3.2 inch touchscreen.

As the XpressMusic name suggests, this is a fantastic music phone. Supporting microSD cards up to 16GB there’s plenty of storage for music and video files. The media player makes it easy to organise and play your music. The built-in accelerometer rotates the screen, which is useful for viewing widescreen movies. There’s a standard 3.5mm headphone jack and a TV out port for viewing photos and videos, or playing the built-in accelerometer games on your big screen. There’s also a stereo FM radio with RDS.

The box is generously packed with accessories including a TV out cable, headphone remote, 8 GB memory card, USB cable, spare stylus, carry case and desk stand.

The camera on the Nokia 5800 has 3.2 megapixels and a dual LED flash. This might not sound impressive but it has a high quality Carl Zeiss and that makes all the difference. The camera should be more than adequate for most users; photographs are noticeably better compared to those taken with an iPhone or with an older generation cameraphone.

The built-in web browser is excellent, the touch interface works well in widescreen orientation and the screen renders quickly. Web pages can be dragged with a finger swipe or zoomed to the size of the screen with a double tap on the screen. The Nokia 5800 has 3G, HSDPA and Wi-Fi. There’s also a built-in GPS receiver and a special touchscreen version of Nokia Maps is pre-installed.

Don’t forget the Nokia 5800 is also a very good phone! The on-screen numeric keypad makes dialling easy. With a choice of on-screen QWERTY keyboards or handwriting recognition, it’s easy to manage your contact list.
